About the Photo
This photo of Wakhi family I took inside of their traditional house in one of the villages of Wakhan Valley of Afghanistan in 2015. The photo was chosen as the Best Photo of the Week by National Geographic Russia website. People who live in this extremely remote area of the country must be absolutely self-sufficient. There is hardly any transport, no shops, most of the villages have no supplied electricity. Wakhi’s religion is Ismailism, a moderate form of Islam. Women don’t cover faces and most of the people there are very friendly. I have hundreds of yet unpublished photographs and portraits from my visit and planning to release a full photo story or a book about these amazing people and their life.
