About the Photo
This photo of Desanesh Tribe school kids I took near Omorate, Ethiopia. The photo was featured as Editors’ Choice by National Geographic Russia website. While in Omorate (where I got on the top of a truck with locals) I met a teacher from a nearby Desanesh people village who agreed to take me to the school. It looked rather like an abandoned barn without electricity. The kids from the village came to the class room later, just out of curiosity. As the teacher said, no parents insist that their children attend school. The school itself had just one class and absolutely no facilities, except the desk and some wooden benches. The teacher, who was probably about 25, had a mattress in his crumbling office, where he normally slept every night as he had no other housing.
